[E2-1] Policies related to pollution

The Management Board of PGE S.A. adopted the Environmental Policy and the Declaration by the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A. on the environmental policy. Information on the minimum disclosure requirements relating to these documents, not covered by the present section, can be found in section E1-2 of this Statement.

The referenced documents relate to mitigating the impact of PGE CG’s core operations on various environmental components, including pollutant emissions and the mitigation of associated risks. They describe the approach to pollution, emissions and other environmental impacts, the control of monitoring systems, ongoing analysis of environmental parameters, emission reporting, and the initiation of measures to reduce environmental impacts.

The key commitments of PGE CG regarding air, water and soil pollution, as outlined in the Declaration on environmental policy, include:

  • a commitment to the continuous improvement of environmental protection efforts and environmental quality, as well as to pollution prevention – by implementing high, economically justified technological standards,
  • planning the Group’s development based on modern, environmentally friendly technologies that meet the best available techniques (BAT) criteria,
  • minimising negative environmental impacts through appropriate management of water and wastewater systems and air emissions, reducing the volume of waste generated and using it as efficiently as possible,
  • taking preventive measures to avoid the occurrence of failures.

For internal stakeholders (employees) as well as for external stakeholders, the current PGE Management Board Declaration on Environmental Policy is made available on, among others, the PGE Group website.

At the same time, an Environmental Management System compliant with the requirements of PN-EN ISO 14001:2015 and the EcoManagement and Audit Scheme (EMAS) are in place in selected companies of the PGE CG. Detailed information on the systems and the companies covered by them is provided in section E1-2.

The primary objective of the ISO 14001 standard is to support environmental protection and prevent pollution with respect to specific environmental components (air, water, and soil pollution), in a manner that takes into account socio-economic needs, in line with the principles of sustainable development. The Environmental Management System identifies and monitors PGE CG’s impact on the environment, considering risks and opportunities as well as legal requirements. Regular audits confirm compliance with the standards and best practices, and improvements are implemented where necessary.

In accordance with the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), the relevant entities prepare annual environmental statements in line with the EMAS Regulation, which are verified by an authorised body. These statements provide additional confirmation that the entity operates in a sustainable manner while maintaining high environmental standards, including in relation to air, water, and soil pollution.
