ESRS
[E2-3] Targets related to pollution

At present, the PGE CG Strategy to 2030 does not include specific objectives directly related to the prevention and control of water, soil or air pollution (excluding greenhouse gas emissions, which are addressed in the section dedicated to ESRS E1).

The environmental management systems implemented in the companies, in accordance with ISO 14001 and the EMAS regulation, allow ongoing monitoring and control of the implementation of the Environmental Policy and Statement, as well as monitoring of the effectiveness of the activities carried out. Where stakeholder participation is required in relation to changes to environmental administrative decisions – such as those regarding the setting of emission limit values – public consultations are held.

Procedures arising from the aforementioned internal regulations and applicable legislation are cascaded across all organisational levels. Below are examples of PGE CG companies that have adopted operational monitoring methods to track the implementation of the aforementioned commitments, in particular those stemming from the Environmental Policy and environmental statements of the Companies:

PGE GiEK S.A. implements the commitments of the Environmental Policy by monitoring and complying with the values stipulated in its environmental permits.

For PGE GiEK S.A., the pollution objective is to comply with the values indicated in the permits. Due to the specific nature of its operations, the branches of PGE GiEK S.A. apply the provisions of Integrated Permits with respect to air protection methods and technologies. Ongoing measures are taken to minimise the emission of harmful substances into the air. The branches also comply with the obligations set out in the Integrated Permits and water law decisions. Measures aimed at reducing the discharge of hazardous substances into water have been implemented and are in operation. On an ongoing basis, measures are being taken to optimise the functioning of water and wastewater management.

These companies conduct operational activities to ensure compliance with threshold values specified in environmental permits and sector-specific decisions, with the aim of minimising their environmental impact. They monitor the consumption of raw materials and fuels in processes that may generate pollution and work to optimise their use. Waste is sorted, packaging is recovered and recycled, and water consumption is optimised. Oils used in processes are stored in ways that prevent leaks, such as the use of double-walled tanks and absorbents.

In terms of managing and controlling pollution arising from its operations, the company places strong emphasis on implementing the directions set out in the Environmental Policy Declaration of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A. and the Environmental Policy Declaration of the Company’s Management Board, as well as on compliance with the limits specified in integrated permits, water law permits and other sector-specific permits (including those related to waste management) through continuous monitoring and evaluation of environmental impacts.

The company monitors processes that may potentially be sources of pollution. Modernisation projects incorporate state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly solutions. Waste management is aimed at minimising waste generation and is carried out in compliance with the relevant permits and internal procedures.

With regard to the management and control of pollution generated during operations, the company pursues the set objectives in the Declaration of the Company’s Management Board on the environmental policy.

As part of the Declaration of the Management Board of PGE Energetyka Kolejowa S.A. on environmental policy, the objective of reducing pollutants to the air was set for its own operations and in the upstream and downstream value chain.

The Company conducts environmental reviews to, among other things, comply with environmental requirements.

The company fulfils the Environmental Policy Statements by complying with the values set out in the integrated permits and sectoral decisions.
