[E3-1] Policies related to water and marine resources

In the PGE Capital Group, there is no policy in place that would directly address water consumption, water withdrawals, or water discharge. These issues, however, have been taken into account in the comprehensive Environmental Policy and the Declaration by the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna S.A. on the environmental policy.

Information on the minimum disclosure requirements relating to these documents, not covered by the present section, can be found in section E1-2 of this Statement.

The PGE CG is aware of its impact and actively acts to respect limited water resources. In its operations, it uses water responsibly for the entire ecosystem. The negative impact is minimised through, among other things, appropriate water and waste water management.

In its Environmental Policy, the PGE CG commits to implementing measures that also have an indirect impact on marine resources. The PGE CG’s initiatives related to reducing the impact on the aquatic environment include development of sustainable electricity and heat generation and distribution technologies, environmental compensation, reduction of water and energy consumption, and recycling.

The Declaration on environmental policy refers to water resource management alongside other environmental components and does not define specific rules in this regard. The following content of the Declaration sets out the key commitments of the PGE Capital Group, which also relate to water management:

  • minimising adverse environmental impacts through appropriate management in the areas of water and wastewater management;
  • taking preventive measures to counteract the occurrence of accidents,
  • raising the skills, awareness and commitment of employees to environmental protection.

At the same time, a certified Environmental Management System compliant with the requirements of PN-EN ISO 14001:2015 and an EMAS audit system are in place in selected companies of the PGE Capital Group, as described in the previous sections of the Statement.

Processes related to water and wastewater management in the PGE CG’s installations are primarily based on the Water Law Act and other implementing acts on water and waste water management. These are carried out in accordance with administrative decisions issued by competent authorities as permits or sectoral decisions (water permits).

Until 2024, no detailed analysis was carried out on the positioning of PGE CG units in areas with significant water deficits according to the Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas of the World Resources Institute. Therefore, there is no need to develop customised policies for water-scarce locations.
