[ESRS 2 SBM-3] Material impacts, risks and opportunities and their interaction with strategy and business model

In 2024, the PGE Group identified significant impacts concerning workers in the value chain across the following topical areas: job security, working time, adequate wages, occupational health and safety, measures to prevent violence and harassment, and workplace diversity.

The PGE CG’s business model comprises eight segments, ranging from conventional energy and district heating to renewables and circular economy. Ensuring operational efficiency across the Group requires effective collaboration throughout the value chain. Consequently, the Group works with a wide range of entities while striving to uphold high standards in its business relationships. This interdependence constitutes the primary source of the identified significant impacts on the value chain workers.  Moreover, cooperation with supply chain partners is a driver for further planned actions in this area. The PGE Group seeks to build relationships with reliable partners who not only meet its own high standards but also comply with international ones.

Within the identified topical areas, the PGE CG has recorded positive impacts, as reflected in the following actions:

  • The Group expects its employees and contractors to adhere to the ethical values outlined in the PGE Capital Group Code of Ethics and the Code of Conduct for Business Partners.
  • Potential partners undergo verification, including checks on outstanding payments and confirmation of appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Contractors are required to observe the OECD and UN Guidelines on business and human rights.
  • PGE provides contractors with information on health and safety hazards, emergency procedures, and OHS requirements, and conducts OHS training. Occupational health and safety inspections of contractors’ work are carried out, and internal OHS units monitor and supervise activities in this area. In 2024, a process was introduced for collecting and analysing data on contractor workplace accidents.

A detailed account of the actions confirming these positive impacts is presented in section S2-4.

Significant impacts on value chain workers relate in particular to:

  • Individuals working at PGE Group’s locations or on behalf of the Group,
  • Employees of upstream value chain entities (e.g. logistics or distribution service providers).
