[S2-4] Taking action on material impacts on value chain workers, and approaches to managing material risks and pursuing material opportunities related to value chain workers, and effectiveness of those action
The fundamental ethical values and principles of the PGE Group, along with the standards expected of employees – including management – are outlined in the PGE Capital Group Code of Ethics.
At the same time, the Group expects its current and prospective contractors to act in accordance with the values of the PGE Group and to conduct themselves responsibly and ethically, as set out in the Code of Conduct for Business Partners of the PGE CG companies. The aim of ongoing implementation of both the Code and the OHS Policy is to promote opportunities and positive impacts concerning value chain workers.
Key ongoing actions concerning these workers include:
- Verification of possible partners, including checks for compliance with legal payment obligations (e.g. social security, tax payments) and confirmation of adequate insurance coverage.
- Obliging contractors to comply with internationally recognised standards, such as the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
- Contractors working on the premises of PGE Capital Group companies are provided with information on, among other things, health and life hazards occurring in the workplace, rules of conduct in the event of accidents or other situations threatening the health and life of employees, and protective and preventive measures taken to eliminate or reduce risks. Where appropriate, OHS requirements are included in contracts, and OHS induction training is conducted for contractors.
- OHS inspections of contractor work. The OHS Policy includes a commitment to cooperating with contractors on OHS issues, monitoring their work carried out on PGE CG’s premises or equipment, and responding to findings from these inspections by internal OHS committees ensuring corrective measures are taken.
- For 2024, 24 PGE CG subsidiaries reported that contractors had communicated OHS issues to their representatives.
- For 2024, 30 subsidiaries reported that they provided contractors with OHS information in that year, included safety requirements in contracts, and conducted OHS inspections of contractor work.
- Monitoring effectiveness of efforts is ensured through a system tracking incidents involving value chain workers. Internal OHS units continuously monitor and supervise the planning, implementation, and execution status of safety-related activities by contractors and subcontractors. Weekly internal OHS meetings are held to assess current actions, monitor progress, and plan further measures if needed.
- In 2024, a process was implemented to collect and analyse information on occupational accidents involving contractors working on PGE CG premises or equipment. Following serious incidents – including a fatal accident involving a contractor’s employee at one of the subsidiaries – the Corporate Centre launched an extraordinary inspection to identify necessary corrective actions.
- No incidents related to human rights violations in the value chain were reported during the reporting period. Further details on the OHS Policy and related activities are provided in section S1 of this Statement.
