Important points: Pollution of air; Pollution of water; Pollution of soil.
PGE CG’s operations, particularly in the Conventional Generation segment, have a negative environmental impact due to the emission of pollutants into the air, water and soil. The Bełchatów Power Plant, which is part of this segment, is a significant point source of pollution, as it is the largest lignite-fired power generation unit in Poland and globally. Due to the Group’s long-standing operations in the Conventional Generation and District Heating segments, coal-based assets are still in use. Despite the measures undertaken to align PGE CG’s generation units with BAT conclusions, they remain significant sources of pollution.
PGE CG also has a positive environmental impact in the area of pollution, primarily through the implementation of new investments as part of the transformation of generation assets and by increasing access to clean district heating, i.e. the development of heating networks based on renewable energy sources and the modernisation of existing networks. In addition, PGE CG applies circularity, enabling the reuse of water in technological processes.
Information on the identified risks is provided in section ESRS – 2 SBM -3.
